How essential oils are used? 10 easy approaches

Essential oils have grown in popularity over the last few decades. People are experimenting with aromatherapy but may not know where to start.

Aromanthi has essential oil blends already designed for sleep, stress, and low energy that you can apply with the following approaches listed below.

Here are 10 easy methods on how essential oils are used.

1.Essential Oil Diffuser

Diffusers are an awesome addition to decorate your home or office and can be easily accessible. Water diffusers usually require 12-15 drops of essential oil mixed into its water container. Steam is produced which fills the room, and you can run it however long you want to receive the therapeutic benefits of aromatherapy. Many people tend to choose water diffusers, but if you don't clean them frequently, you're looking at the potential for mold and mildew growth. You can view Aromanthi's Essential Oil Self-Care Bundle here.

I personally prefer electric nebulizer diffusers. You only apply 2-3 drops of essential oil in the glass container, and it is attached to an ultrasonic nebulizer, which vibrates. The vibrations help the oils evaporate into the air. I find that this option is more sanitary and lets you use the least amount of essential oil compared to the 12-15 drops of essential oil you need in a water diffuser.

Nebulizer diffusers are also more potent, so when you turn it on it only has to run for 2-3 minutes before the aroma particles fill the air. Ventilation may be necessary when you're using this around pets and children. Keep them away while you're diffusing and don't let them in the room for at least 25 minutes after running it.

2. Therapeutic Massage with Carrier Oil

Massage is an excellent holistic technique that you can use on yourself, or someone else. Combining massage with essential oils is a convenient way to reach aromatherapy benefits for physical and well as emotional well-being and balance.

Just use any carrier oil you may have in your kitchen. Carrier oils are used to dilute the essential oil of your choosing, but also helps spready those benefits to large areas of the body. Carrier oils also nurture and moisturize our skin, which is the most vulnerable organ since it is constantly exposed to sun, pollutants and other environmental elements.

Carrier and essential oils enter the body through the pores of our skin, and circulate through our bloodstream, which flows throughout our entire body. Choosing the right essential oil can help with issues like pain relief, stress, and skin therapy when using therapeutic massage.

My favorite carrier oils are coconut and olive oil for the body, and grapeseed or jojoba oil for our face. If you'd like a massage blend that's already combined, you can view Aromanthi body butter and pain salve collection here

3. Therapeutic Spray Method

Add essential oils to distilled water for a refreshing approach to aromatherapy. You will need 8-10 drops of your favorite essential oil blend for a 1oz spray bottle. Just shake and apply to your skin, or fabrics. This technique can be used for energy healing, sleep, or a more balancing effect for the mind. Aromanthi has a stress-relief blend and sleep blend already formulated in a 2oz bottle.

4. DIY Aromatherapy Room Spray

Similar to the spray method mentioned above, you can make your own room spray by mixing your favorite essential oil with equal parts distilled water and vodka. This creates a perfectly mood setter for your home, or workplace.

5. Add Essential Oils to Your Washing Machine

Add 4-5 drops of essential oil with unscented laundry detergent to customize the aroma for your clothing!

6. Add Essential Oils to a Dryer Ball

You can add the same exact drops of oil as the laundry method but apply to an unscented dryer ball or sheet.

7. Aromatherapy Steam Shower

This is my favorite method of aromatherapy. We shower every day, so this approach will hold us accountable to actually utilizing essential oils on a daily basis. All you need is 3 drops of essential oil placed in the corner of your shower where the water doesn't directly flow. As the steam fills the air in your bathroom so will the aroma particles from your oil. This allows you to receive inhalation benefits from aromatherapy.

8. 1 Drop to a Tissue and Sniff

Another simple inhalation method for aromatherapy is to add 1 drop of essential oil to a tissue or handkerchief, place under your nose, and breathe deeply.

You can also choose Aromanthi's wellness nasal inhalers, which is a portable and convenient inhalation method for aromatherapy.

9. DIY Surface Cleaner

Similar to the room spray method, just swap vodka with white vinegar to equal parts of distilled water. Shake and spray on surfaces for cleaning.

10. Mix with unscented shampoo, moisturizer, conditioner or soap

2-3 drops of essential oil mixed in any unscented shampoo, moisturizer, conditioner or soap can allow you simple aromatherapy self-care technique.

Remember essential oils can be very potent, so follow the right method that works best for you and enjoy! If you experience any irritation with your essential oils, stop use and speak with your physician. Do not ingest essential oils, make sure you use them in well-ventilated areas to prevent any harm to yourself, children, and pets.
